Visiting Bucky’s Place–the Hillside SPCA

Today I visited the Hillside SPCA. I drove by the SPCA on my way to the spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Sunday. I kept my GPS programmed for Pottsville, knowing that it would take me by the SPCA again. The area was hilly and wooded, with very beautiful scenery. I understood how Hillside got its name. When I saw the sign for the SPCA, I turned down a steep driveway and found the buildings, surrounded by a peaceful wooded area.

There was a cluster of buildings, including a small dog building, large dog building, cat building, and more. There were outdoor runs with dogs running and playing together, not something you often see at an animal shelter. The dogs get to spend time outside and those that get along with others get to be together outside as a pack.

Janine came out and offered to show me around. It was good to see her again. She first introduced me to Chris, who took me through the small dog building. Then she took me through the cat building. The SPCA is very busy and crowded since they are also taking in animals that are homeless due to the home mortgage crisis in this country. So many beautiful dogs and cats are looking for homes.

Barbara returned from walking some dogs in the woods. I took a photo of Janine and Barbara in the driveway and thanked them for all of their hard work. I enjoyed seeing the place where Bucky lived for over a year and the caring people who worked so hard to take good care of him and find him a great home.
