When it Rains, it Pours!

Whew! This week I have been playing some sort of role on rescues in Wyoming, Georgia, Kentucky, Iowa, and Minnesota. When it rains, it pours! Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) Tinkerbelle was rescued from a short chain, a dismal excuse for a life, in Wyoming. Scooter, an ACD-border collie mix was rescued from a kill (gassing) shelter in Georgia, after being held over by a woman who was “supposed to” put him down and just couldn’t do it. The animal control officer advocated for him because he was so sweet, and then we came along. I visited the handsome blue male ACD at the impound here in Minnesota and can’t believe that nobody is looking for him. I learned about Dotty, a catahoula cattle dog mix(?) who has been at the shelter in Iowa for a long time and needs some place to go–her situation has become urgent. Then I was contacted about an 8 to 10 week old puppy “Foxie”, a red female cattle dog who was found wandering on her own in Kentucky. She has already been held over and has until Monday morning to get out or they will euthanize her. I’m working on a plan for her.

At the moment, there is a plan to get each of these dogs to safety. Rocky Mountain ACD Rescue has offered to take Tinker, Homeward Bound in Minnesota has offered to take Scooter, Foxie, and Dotty. I’m still trying to find a place for the blue male in Minnesota (nicknamed “Boomer”) to go, but he is safe and doing ok where he is. Whew! We’re still going like mad to get transports arranged and to make sure it all happens. I’ll write about each one of them as I get the chance! Plus I’m trying to spend some good weekend time here with my three. This time of year it’s dark by the time I get home from work, so the daylight time to be outside on the weekends is precious.

Today I stopped by my local library and there was a copy of the St. Paul Pioneer Press article on display! On Wednesday, the Pioneer Press featured an article about 8 State Hurricane Kate (the book) and its nomination for two Dog Writers Association of America awards. It was fun to see the article on display at my small town local library! 🙂
