Cay’s 6th Week of Class

This week Cay did an awesome job in class. At home, Bandit and Chase kenneled up and Cay ran out the door to the garage ahead of me. A few weeks ago, she was afraid to go without the boys, but now she’s excited to go along with me to class!

Cay’s 5th Week of School

It has been a busy week here, to say the least. I have been involved in one way or another with the rescues of three cattle dog types in three different locations. More on that later. Cay’s 5th week of obedience school was mostly more of the same. She has greatly improved her ability to […]

Cay’s 4th Week of School… and Chicken Thieving Again!

I’m so proud of Cay. It’s fun to see her finally, gradually come out of her shell. I have been working on teaching her the “silent down”, in which I tell her to sit, then lure her into a down. Eventually, she learns to anticipate that the next move from the sit will be a […]

Hunting Season Begins

I woke up early this morning to the sound of gunshots. Actually, I woke to the sound of Chase barking at gunshots. He heard them before I did. Apparently deer hunting season has begun. This must be one of the two weekends per year that they allow a controlled hunt in the state park in our […]

Cay’s 3rd Week of School

Last night we went to Cay’s 3rd week of obedience school. We had been practicing at home, especially on the stationary exercises. Even after running with the boys for 1/2 hour before going to class, Cay doesn’t like to sit still. She is a champ at heeling and sits promptly at my side when I […]

Cay’s Toenails and Celebrating Razzie’s 13th

On Saturday I took Cay to the local groomer to get her toenails clipped. That is one thing that we still have trouble with. I have tried doing one nail per day and taking it slowly, but it never seems to get done. I work on touching her feet at bed time and other times […]

Cay Goes to School

Today Cayenne started her first obedience class. She has been here with us since April and has had plenty of time to settle in. She has ridden along to obedience school, agility, and herding events. Now that summer is over and she has become much more comfortable in different situations, she gets to attend her […]

Bandit’s Ad

This has been a busy week! At the end of last week, Barb O’Brien of the Animal Connection called. They were interested in auditioning/ photographing Bandit for a Cargill ad. The shoot would be at the beginning of this week. We had never done an ad before, but it sounded interesting.   Luck (or chance) would have it […]

Siblings and Lead or Get Out of the Way

Neither Bandit nor Chase has been a counter surfer or a thief, which may surprise some of you. Bandit is a purebred Australian Cattle Dog and Chase, we think, is an ACD-Collie mix. Cay, on the other hand, is getting bolder and bolder around our house. She has taken to checking what is on the […]

Sorting Toys and Choose to Heel

Cay has figured out how to come on my whistle by watching Chase. Today I practiced recalls on the whistle with her for the first time. All on her own, she learned to leave the inside toys inside and the outside toys outside. I didn’t have to teach her these things because she pays close […]
